OpenOffice.org --> BanglaOffice.org

For last 10 days, I was busy compiling OOo to build Bangla localized version. After facing several compilation errors, googling around and fixing - finally I build it successfully. My target was to build a Windows version, because our friend Sayamindu has already built a Linux version. You can get his screen shot here.

I have uploaded some more shots of BOo [ie. BanglaOffice.org] to Ankur's screenshots section. :)

BDLUG Seminar at AIUB

We arranged a seminar at the American International University Bangladesh auditorium yesterday. The title was, "Prospect and Future of Linux and OSS in the Bangladeshi Software Development Landscape".

I had to give a speech on "Localization Factor in Computing and Linux" and it was my first speech to a big audience. So you can imagine how scary it was! :)

Moja bhai gave a speech on "Prospect of Linux and OSS in Bangladesh", which was awesome!

Some photos were taken at the event and you can get them here.

Let the coding begin!

This just in: "In a 648-14 vote (with 18 abstentions), the European Parliament has voted against the controversial Software Patent Directive on its second reading. EU lawmakers stated that software patents could limit innovation, cause difficulties for businesses and that human knowledge cannot be patented. This is a great win for open source advocates, many of whom have campaigned against the directive, and the EU head office (which had drafted the bill) has no plans to produce a new version. Definitely a great day for the Linux world."
